Simon’s Story
Simon is my very first basenji and is a rescue of sorts. We purchased him from a local person who had god Simon for their handicapped child thinking a dog would be good for the child. Well, maybe some dogs, but not Simon. Simon was 6 months old when we got him and had been through 3 homes already. All of the homes had done no training with him and he had been kept outside.
Simon was one dog that I did not like immediately. His job, as he saw it, was to run and bite you in the backside. After a few “discussions” with Simon, we came to an agreement and all was well from there on.
We had Simon evaluated for the show ring, but he was not a happy camper when it came to having strangers “examine” him. So… we decided to try Lure Coursing.
Simon LOVED coursing and finished his Field Championship from the Veterans class at the International Invitational held in Lexington, KY in 1998. We only took Simon to local courses a few times a year.
