Peka-Jo needs a Forever Home
Peka Jo's story

Approximate Age: 5-7 years
Gender: Neutered Male
Color: Black and White
Location: Louisville KY
Foster’s Comments:

Peka Jo didn't start out life with the best beginnings. He lived in a private home with a hundred plus other Basenjis spending most of his life in crates and cages. This little Basenji did not escape his poor beginnings without physical and behavioral scars. One of those behaviors manifested as a fear of reaching hands. Whenever Peka Jo is in a fearful situation he just shuts down. His whole body becomes stiff like a Tennessee Fainting Goat, strange but true!
Physically he has low thyroid and needs daily medication. Peka Jo has some scar tissue on his lungs due to the damage from living in a filthy environment. He may have this mild cough for the rest of his life but it doesn't interfere with his agenda for FUN! Agile and active, little Peka Jo is reliving has puppyhood. He loves to clime on things and can crawl over baby gates. This little basenji is not a chewer. The furniture is safe around Peka Jo. Peka Jo’s has a competitive but NOT aggressive temperament. This little basenji will do anything to get food. His meals will need to be measured or he will become obese, a no no with his lung conduction. Peka Jo is partly housetrained and just needs someone who is willing to give him one on one attention.
Peka Jo is seeking a forever bond with someone who will love him unconditionally and give him the time, training and patience he requires to be your best Basenji pal and playmate!
